Was This Forever?
"Do you know? Have you seen?
I'm incomplete. Where have you been?
What role do I have? I may not last a scene,
In this romance or tragedy, it may be.
How much time does a man
Take to forget another?
Maybe weeks, maybe months,
maybe neither, till forever.
have you seen? Or even looked?
At my heart aching so for you?"
Said the seventeen-year-old,
To his one true love.
The girl stood there, shy.
With red cheeks and dimples.
She put out her hand and whispered
"Take it and let go never."
The boy kissed her
And smiled before saying
"I'll be at your side and bed,
Holding you till forever."
The seventy-year-old lady
Was startled from her daydream
By the sounds of prayer and weeping
And people mourning someone's death.
She sat there, in a quiet corner
A tear rolled down her red cheek
And dimple as it fell.
She turned to her dead man,
"Was this forever?" She whispered.
